Apple says U.S. tariffs on China would hit 'wide range' of products

Apple does not disclose specific revenues for most of the affected products, but those that Apple Watch may be the largest seller. According to the analytical firm Bernstein, last year it brought about 6.1 billion Dollars of income. This represents a small share of Apple's total sales of $ 229 billion.

Apple expressed the impact on its products of the proposed tariffs of the Trump administration on Chinese goods worth $ 200 billion in a letter without a prescription which it submitted on Wednesday to US officials as part of the public comment period.
On Friday, US President Donald Trump, speaking on board the Air Force, said that he has tariffs for an additional $ 267 billion in Chinese goods, "ready to go for a short time if I want to."

Cell phones, the largest US imports from China, have so far been saved, but would suffer if Trump activates a new tariff plan for $ 267 billion.

AirPods, some of the Apple Beats headphones and its new HomePod speaker also face costs in the proposed tariffs for Chinese goods worth $ 200 billion, according to a letter presented on Wednesday.

"Our concern with these tariffs is that the United States will suffer the most, and this will lead to a decrease in US growth and competitiveness and an increase in prices for US consumers," the letter says.

Apple did not respond to requests for comments.

The letter does not mention the iPhone, which accounts for about two-thirds of Apple's revenue of $ 229 billion in the last financial year. The letter also did not mention the iPad, which sold $ 19.2 billion over the past year. USA, or in most Mac computers, which amounted to 25.8 billion dollars. USA.
Apple said that its MacMini, an inexpensive computer that comes without a keyboard or mouse, will be affected.

Apple reported that many Apple accessories, such as mice, keyboards, chargers and even leather covers for the iPhone and iPad, will face tariffs.
Reuters reported in July that the Apple Watch is likely to be affected by tariffs.

Apple's shares closed 0.8 percent on the Nasdaq trade on Friday and extended another 1 percent in extended trading.

Apple also said that computer parts for its operations in the US will suffer from tariffs. The company stated that "the main logic boards with microprocessor blocks" may face charges, as well as with equipment used for research and development.

According to the latest records of Apple in July, CEO Tim Cook said that the company may face such tariffs, "related to data centers."
In its letter, Apple argued that the way US trade officials calculate the US trade balance - attributing the entire value of the product to a country like China where the final assembly takes place, does not reflect the true meaning that Apple produces in the United States. The company noted that in its last financial year, it spent $ 50 billion on 9,000 suppliers in the US, including Finisar Corp. chip and Kentucky Corning Inc.

"Given the balance of Apple's economic footprint, the burden of the proposed tariffs will be much stronger in the US than in China," Apple said in a statement in a letter.

The technology sector is one of the biggest potential losers in the proposed tariff list for 200 billion dollars. Fitbit (FIT.N) said it would suffer from tariffs, and Intel Corp. (INTC.O) said that the fees could slow the adoption of 5G networks, the next generation of wireless data transmission technology for phones and other devices.
